The differences and similarities among Serotonin and Dopamine
Serotonin and Dopamine are probably the most well known neurotransmitters from all 100 neurotransmitters that scientists managed to discover until this day.
Both neurotransmitters are created from amino acids, namely: Tryptophan (serotonin) and Tyrosine (dopamine).
These neurotransmitters have numerous medical abbreviations, yet most used abbreviations are 5-HT for serotonin and DA or DOPA for dopamine.
In the case of serotonin be careful not to confuse 5-HT with 5-HTP, and this due to the fact that 5-HTP is a chemical substance (derived from the Tryptophan amino acid) which when appears it’s converted by the body into serotonin.
It is well known that serotonin and dopamine counterbalance each other.…

The link between Serotonin and the 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) chemical

5-Hydroxytryptophan, or (how many scientists refers to it) 5-HTP, is the link between the serotonin neurotransmitter and L-tryptophan amino-acid.
L-tryptophan amino-acid can be found in certain foods (turkey, potatoes) that we eat. At the moment when these foods that we ate begin to digest, the body starts to convert the L-tryptophan amino-acid (obtained through digestion) into 5-HTP. After that, the 5HTP gets in the bloodstream and in the peripheral tissues, some of it will be converted in serotonin and some of the 5HTP will head up to the brain, where will be also be converted into serotonin.
The last journey that the 5-Hydroxytryptophan will make to the brain is the most important one, because the serotonin that was made in the body can’t cross the blood–brain barrier, due to its molecule dimension, and can’t get in the brain.…

Things that boosts your serotonin levels

Serotonin plays an important role in our lives. It is a living energy molecule that delays gratification. When the level of serotonin is very low it leads to failure and difficulty controlling impulses.
Here are four ways you can increase serotonin levels:
Light of the Sun
The primary source of light for people comes from the sun. This light has the advantage over other forms of light, namely because it contains ultraviolet light, which is much brighter than any other form of light produced by man.
UV (ultraviolet lights) can produce skin cancer if a person is exposed to it excessively, but nevertheless ultraviolet rays are important.…

Serotonin deficiency and its symptoms

One of the most important neurotransmitters that influences the emotional state is serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is strongly influenced by our diet. Thus, it is understood that high levels of serotonin give a feel good state, while serotonin deficiency gives negative moods. These negative moods are:
Low self esteem
Anxiety or excessive worry
Chronic pain
Panic, fear and phobias
Obsession
Pessimism…
